TopCow®
Maxum

Pre-Calving 1 Post-Calving 2 Early Lactation 3 Mid Lactation 4 Late Lactation 5 Dry Cow 6

High energy feed designed to meet the physical and metabolic demands of early lactation.

Recommended for Stage 2 Post-Calving, Stage 3 Early Lactation and Stage 4 Mid Lactation.

  • High in carbohydrate to meet the massive increase in nutrient requirements during early lactation
  • Provides high levels of energy to support recovery from calving while milk production increases
  • Allows maximum benefit to be gained from the high protein pastures present during this period.

TopCow® Maxum is the quintessential high quality dairy ration for the high producing dairy cow. TopCow® Maxum combines a high quality mix of grains to provide both rumen degradable (RDS) and rumen escape starches (RES).

The combination of this high starch and low neutral detergent fibre (NDF), pelletised ration along with lush high protein pasture will help reduce the severity of negative energy balance in a freshly calved cow. This will support her through extreme metabolic change while meeting increased energy demands as milk production rapidly rises, all with the benefit of reducing body condition loss.

Incorporating TopCow® Maxum into the ration will help fill energy deficits and help get cows into a positive energy balance quicker, reach peak production earlier and help improve reproductive performance and fertility.

What do your cows need now?

Through the period of post-calving and early lactation the cow moves through dramatic metabolic changes to support rapidly increasing milk production. The rations provided through this period will influence both the amount of body condition lost over this period, the time taken to reach peak milk solids production and the extent of peak milk solids production.

The focus during this period is on maximising dry matter intake (DMI) and feed conversion efficiency (FCE) and returning the animal to a positive energy balance as quickly as possible. Rations which are rich in starch result in the volatile fatty acid (VFA) propionate being produced in the rumen. Propionate is a precursor of glucose which ultimately drives milk volume and can underpin milk protein production by sparing amino acids.

Products with fat levels that take the total ration fat content higher than 5% should be avoided.

Pick your Protein

TopCow® Maxum is available with a choice of either 12% or 16% crude protein.

Usage Rates

TopCow® Maxum usage rates will vary according to forage availability, breed of cow, stage of lactation and milk solids production.
